The Riddle of Literary Quality
On Friday the 27th of September we closed the online survey Het Nationale Lezersonderzoek with 13.782 completed surveys. As of November, updates of the results are weekly posted.
Both the survey and the project have gained a lot of attention in the media. Since the latest newsletter in July, interviews and articles have been published in de Volkskrant, Friesch Dagblad, Quest and at Cultuurbewust.nl.
Members of The Riddle have been present at the Digital Humanities conference in Nebraska, the Computational Models of Narrative workshop in Hamburg and the European Summer School in Digital Humanities in Leipzig. Last November, Andreas presented a paper at the International Conference on Parsing Technologies in Japan. Karina en Gertjan had a meeting in Krakow with the core players in computational stylistics from a literary perspective to talk about connecting the tools that are being developed in The Riddle to e.g. the Stylo Script and The Intelligent Archive. Furthermore, Kim was asked to lecture high school students (5VWO) at the SGR in Amsterdam, and she also gave the annual Siegenbeeklezing (‘Siegenbeek lecture’) at the University of Leiden.
